چکیده

A partial occlusion of one or more of the coronary arteries due to atherosclerosis leads to an insufficient supply of blood to the myocardium and as a result to the reduction of its functioning (myocardial ischemia). A total occlusion blocks the blood supply completely, which generally leads to starvation of myocardial tissue (myocardial infarction). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has proven to be a powerful technique for the imaging of cardiac diseases. This papers describes an integrated image analysis approach for the detection of normal, ischemic and infarcted myocardial tissue from cardiac images acquired with MRI. Visualization of myocardial infarction and subsequent coronary reperfusion with MRI using a dog model.

Twelve anesthetized mongrel dogs underwent left thoracotomy with placement of a removable ligature around the left circumflex coronary artery. Following a 3 to 6 hour delay, ECG-gated spin-echo MRI was performed. The ligature was then removed reperfusing the heart, and after a 10-15 min period, MRI repeated. Finally, post-sacrifice images were obtained, and the hearts chemically stained for inf...

Adenosine Stress and Rest T1 Mapping Can Differentiate Between Ischemic, Infarcted, Remote, and Normal Myocardium Without the Need for Gadolinium Contrast Agents

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of T1 mapping at rest and during adenosine stress as a novel method for ischemia detection without the use of gadolinium contrast. BACKGROUND In chronic coronary artery disease (CAD), accurate detection of ischemia is important because targeted revascularization improves clinical outcomes. Myocardial blood volume (MBV) may be a mo...

Gadolinium-Enhancedmagnetic resonance imagingin hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

In vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the heart with gadolinium-based contrast agents has been performed since the mid-1980s (1). A major limitation of the initial techniques was insufficient image contrast between normal and infarcted myocardium. Recently, a number of studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of a new segmented inversion recovery MRI pulse sequence for differentiating ...

Detection and characterization of acute myocardial infarction in man with use of gated magnetic resonance.

To evaluate the capability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the detection and characterization of alterations in signal intensity and T2 relaxation time in acutely infarcted relative to normal myocardium 16 adult patients and normal volunteers were studied by electrocardiographically gated proton MRI. The seven volunteers were entirely asymptomatic and had no history of cardiovascular abn...

Effects of Doxycycline on Cx43 Distribution and Cardiac Arrhythmia Susceptibility of Rats after Myocardial Infarction

Effects of Doxycycline on Cx43 Distribution and Cardiac Arrhythmia Susceptibility of Rats after Myocardial Infarction Abstract: This study aimed to observe the effects of doxycycline (DOX) on gap junction remodeling after MI and the susceptibility of rats to cardiac arrhythmia. The proximal left anterior descending coronary artery of rats was ligated to establish a myocardial infarction animal...
